Why we Chose Zinc

We chose Zinc because it’s the safest and most effective ingredient to use in a sunscreen formula. Zinc Oxide sits on top of the skin, scattering and reflecting UV Rays that cause skin cancer. When most people think zinc oxide, they think the surfer with the “white stuff” on his nose. Luckily there are products like ours with transparent Zinc Oxide, so it rubs in clear leaving no white residue. Zinc Oxide was originally used as an anti-inflammatory skin protect-ant, which makes it a good choice for people with sensitive skin.

What is Broad Spectrum

Broad spectrum refers to sunscreens that protect the skin from both UVA and UVB rays. They used to think UVB rays were the only rays that could cause harm. We now know UVA rays are the main cause of skin cancer, they account for about 95% percent of the rays that hit our skin. For a sunscreen to be labeled as broad spectrum, there are requirements for companies to go through rigorous tests to prove their products protect against both UVA and UVB rays. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection. UVB rays are the main cause of sunburn. UVA rays also contribute to skin cancer and premature aging.

The truth about SPF

The SPF number tells you how long a person can be in the sun before burning. They say SPF 30 is roughly 300 minutes in the sun. Higher SPF products are only a little bit better at protecting you. SPF 30 blocks nearly 97% of UVB radiation whereas SPF 50 blocks about 98%. The truth is, high SPF sunscreens create a false sense of security. People who use them tend to stay out in the sun much longer and skip reapplying, causing worse damage to their skin. Most experts say SPF 30 is the perfect SPF.
